[ARCHIVED] East Cooper Medical Center Welcomes Patrick Downes as Chief Executive Officer
MOUNT PLASANT, SC (April 3, 2017) - East Cooper Medical Center appoints Patrick Downes as the hospital’s new chief executive officer. As CEO, Downes will be responsible for all hospital operations, executive planning and medical services of the 130 bed acute care hospital.
“Patrick is a strong leader who is well poised to guide our administrative team at East Cooper Medical Center towards continued growth and success,” said CEO of Tenet’s Coastal Division, Marsha Powers. “Based on his track record within our company, we are confident that he will ensure the continued delivery of high-quality healthcare to our patients that the hospital is known for.”
Downes comes to East Cooper Medical Center from a sister facility, Coral Gables Hospital, where he served as the CEO for close to two years. During his tenure, the hospital achieved the highest physician satisfaction and lowest employee turnover within Tenet Healthcare, the hospital’s parent company, and the highest patient satisfaction and quality ratings within the region. Hospital admissions grew by 10% and outpatient visits by nearly 30%. Under his tutelage, Coral Gables became the first hospital in Miami-Dade County to achieve The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacements.
Prior to that, he was the chief operating officer of Hialeah Hospital for four years. Among his accomplishments as COO, Downes spearheaded several innovative projects, including the opening of the first Senior ER in Miami-Dade County, a new comprehensive wound care center, and the opening of a 12-bed behavioral health unit. He also led a regional COO group for Tenet in Florida as the group’s chairman and oversaw capital improvements and operational initiatives that improved the overall patient experience.
Downes also served as the associate administrator for Tenet Florida Physician Services, where he managed the recruitment and business development operations of the physician practice management group. In addition, he held the position of associate administrator at North Shore Medical Center and was instrumental in developing the hospital’s primary stroke center.
Downes earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Science in Business Administration from Florida State University.
