MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (January 10, 2018) – At the January 9 Mount Pleasant Town Council meeting, Deputy Chief Mike Mixon announced an upgrade of the fire department's ISO rating from a three to a two. The Insurance Services Office (ISO), an organization that independently evaluates municipal fire protection efforts in communities throughout the United States, offers an ISO scale ranging from one to 10, with one being the highest rating.
The ISO upgrade follows several recently awarded department recognitions, namely their fourth national re-accreditation by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and an improved Public Protection Classification.
“This upgraded ISO rating exemplifies the continued support of public safety by Mayor Will Haynie and the Mount Pleasant Town Council, and the hard work of the men and women of the Mount Pleasant Fire Department,” said Deputy Chief Mixon.
A great ISO rating not only demonstrates that Mount Pleasant is at the forefront of fire protection services, but it also can potentially impact the insurance premiums residents pay annually. Insurance companies use ISO ratings, and other information, to establish local business and residential property insurance rates. Insurance companies may offer lower premiums in communities with better protection.
"Fire protection is a service you never want to use, but it must be the best if it is needed," said Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie. "Receiving an upgrade to our ISO rating validates our investment into our fire personnel, our equipment, and our continued focus on fire prevention."
